Blacktail Mountain Ski Area in the United States (Montana State) is a small ski resort with just 4 ski lifts (3 chair lifts, 1 surface lift) but it does boast a respectable 439 metres (1440 feet) of vertical descent. Blacktail Mountain Ski Area is best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for beginners and advanced skiers. The lifts are very old and very, very slow, but the snow quality is great. The slopes are north facing so don't get sun affected and are protected from the prevailing winds. The terrain is mostly intermediate but is fun. The views of the lake are spectacular. There is nothing like the feeling of having a whole mountain to yourself, there is absolutely no crowds at all. For great accommodation nearby stay at the Outlook Inn in Somers.
