Abondance village is small and traditionally alpine, with a picture postcard village centre. There are some good bars and restaurants, although more suited to families rather than those looking for lively apres-ski. The local ski area has 9 runs which are mainly blues with a couple of reds, ideal for beginners or those taking it easy. For the more adventurous, a free bus takes you 10 minutes to the massive Portes du Soleil ski area. Abondance is ideal for families looking for uncrowded slopes (even in peak weeks!) and great value.

30th January 2012. We spent the day skiing the glorious ski fields of Abondance and loving the fantastic powder and lack of competition for it. If you get the chance to try it on the right day then do not turn it down. It may be a little old school but this was one of the best days skiing in 30 plus years of trying. Maybe we should all experience this while it is still around. Lunch in the restaurant was good and not expensive.
